Top-line Protections

Top-line protections are intended to help protect against fraud. True Link sets default top-line protections on all True Link Visa® Prepaid Cards. These settings can be changed at any time from the online dashboard or the True Link mobile app. 

Protection Overview 

There are three top-line protections:

1 - Merchants on True Link’s ScamWatch list: True Link’s ScamWatch list includes merchants whose behavior has been flagged as potentially fraudulent by multiple users. True Link blocks these merchants as a default setting. 

If a cardholder would like to make a purchase at a merchant listed on the ScamWatch list, we recommend adding the merchant to Merchant Exceptions and allowing all purchases at that merchant.

2 - Online and phone purchases: If online and phone purchases are blocked, the True Link Visa Card will need to be swiped to make a purchase. Administrators may choose to block online and phone purchases if they know the cardholder will use the Card in person but not for online or phone transactions to help reduce the risk of fraudulent activity. True Link does not block online and phone purchases as a default setting.

You can make exceptions to allow certain types of online or phone purchases, such as utility bill payments or restaurant delivery. If you wish to grant one of these exceptions, toggle the online and phone purchases top-line protection to “BLOCK” and select the check box next to the exception you’d like to allow.

If you would like to allow a specific online merchant, you can add the merchant to the Merchant Exceptions section, and the transaction will be allowed. 

3 - International transactions: If a cardholder is not expecting to travel outside the country, we recommend blocking international transactions. This will prevent the Card from being used at a merchant outside the United States. True Link blocks international transactions as a default setting. 

If a cardholder needs to make foreign transactions, move the toggle to “ALLOW” at any time, or add a specific merchant to the Merchant Exceptions section, and the transaction will be allowed.
