Funding Timelines and Limits

Cardholders rely on their True Link Visa® Prepaid Cards to make important purchases, and we work hard to make funds available quickly. We encourage you to review our funding timelines to ensure cardholders have funds when they need and expect them.

Funds availability for new True Link customers

If you are a new True Link customer, funding timelines may vary. To protect both our customers and True Link, our Funding Team may wait up to five business days before making transfers available to your True Link Visa® Prepaid Card.

Over time, as we build a relationship with you and your funding account, you will find that transfers become available much sooner, with transfers scheduled before 4 pm PT becoming available one business day after they are initiated. While your requested transfer is in progress, you may notice that the funds have been debited from your account, even though they have not yet become available on the card. This is a normal part of the transfer process. The delay occurs because the funds are in transit from your bank and have not yet settled on our end.

We recognize that cardholders need access to funds quickly, and we do our best to make a portion of the funds available by the next business day after the fund transfer whenever possible. Transfers settle within five business days and any remaining funds from the transfer that have not yet been made available will be credited to the card at that time.

With this in mind, we also acknowledge that emergencies can happen, and you may know that your cardholder will need to spend money from their True Link Visa® Prepaid Card sooner than five business days from when you were able to initiate the transfer.

  • How did you hear about True Link?
  • For what purposes will your cardholder be using this True Link Visa® Prepaid Card?
  • Please attach a copy of a recent bank statement for the bank account you are using to add funds to the card. This document should list the account owner and account number.

With your reply, we will partner with our Funding Team, and do our best to make funds available sooner. Please note that we cannot guarantee that funds can be made available sooner than five business days from when the transfer is initiated.


Standard funding timelines 

From a Linked Bank Account

As a general rule, if a transfer is submitted before 4 pm PT, Monday through Friday, the funds will be available the next business day (e.g., a transfer initiated at 2 pm PT on a Tuesday would be available on Wednesday).

If a transfer is scheduled on a weekend, on a bank holiday, or after 4 pm PT on Monday through Friday, the transfer will be initiated on the next business day and will land on the Card on the following business day. For example, if you schedule a transfer on Saturday, True Link will initiate the transfer on Monday (the next business day), and the funds will be available on Tuesday (the following business day).

From Direct Deposit

Direct deposits generally take between one to five business days to arrive on a Card. If you have questions about the timing of your direct deposit, we recommend reaching out to the originating bank for more information. True Link is not able to view direct deposits until the funds land on the Card.

Funding timelines and bank holidays

True Link cannot process funds transfers on weekends or on holidays when banks are closed. This means that if either the date the transfer is scheduled to initiate in the system or the date the funds are scheduled to land on the Card falls on a bank holiday, the funds transfer will be delayed.

  • For example, if a transfer is scheduled on a Tuesday and the following day, Wednesday, is a bank holiday, the funds will be available on the Card on Thursday instead of Wednesday.
  • Similarly, if a transfer is scheduled on that holiday Wednesday, the transfer will initiate in the system on Thursday, and the funds will be available on the Card on Friday.

Avoid delays to recurring transfers affected by a holiday 

If an upcoming holiday will impact a scheduled recurring transfer, you will see a pop up notification when you log in to on your online dashboard along with two options: 

  • Option 1: Initiate the transfer at an earlier date to ensure cardholders receive funds before the holiday. If you select this option, funds will be transferred on the earlier date. Ensure the funds are available in the funding bank account before the earlier transfer date to avoid any overdraft fees from your bank. 
  • Option 2: Leave the transfer as-scheduled. If you select this option, funds will land on the Card one business day after the holiday. Specific dates and timelines will be provided on your dashboard. 

Funding Limits

When funding a card, please note the following daily and monthly funding limits. Daily and monthly limits apply to funds transferred through a connected bank account and through direct deposit. 

Please note that daily and monthly funding limits are subject to fund availability and timelines highlighted above.

  • Daily limit: $5,000 total (pending fund availability and timelines)
  • Monthly limit: $20,000 total (pending fund availability and timelines) 

Funding limits are calculated based on funds transferred in the past 30 days.
