Identity Verification Requirements

In this article, you’ll learn about the identity verification requirements for having a True Link Visa® Prepaid Card and the information we collect to fulfill them.

Why does True Link need this information?

We are required by the federal government to verify the identity of each cardholder who opens a Card account.

Successful identity verification - either through our automated system or by collecting additional identification documents - is required in order to activate the Card.

Requirements

To help the federal government fight money laundering and the funding of terrorism, the USA PATRIOT Act requires all financial institutions and their third parties to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens a Card account. Specifically, the government requires identity verification for all reloadable prepaid cards, including the True Link Visa Prepaid Card.

When a Card account is opened, we will ask for the following cardholder information so we can attempt to verify the cardholder’s identity through an automated system:

  • Name
  • Address (cannot be a PO Box)
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security number
