Set or change a PIN
A PIN is a personal identification number, a security code for each True Link Visa® Prepaid Card. Once the Card is activated, a PIN can be set. The Card does not come with a default PIN. A PIN is not required, but a cardholder may need to set one to complete certain activities, such as accessing cash. The PIN can be set or changed at any time.
In this article, you’ll learn what activities require a PIN and how to set or change a PIN.
When is a PIN required?
A PIN must be entered to access cash (e.g., to withdraw cash at an ATM, request cash-back with a purchase, or withdraw cash at a bank). A PIN is not required to make transactions with a True Link Visa Card.
Some merchants may ask for a PIN when completing a purchase. Entering a PIN is optional in these cases. Instead of entering a PIN, a purchase can be completed by selecting “Credit” on the payment terminal or asking the merchant to run the Card as “Credit.”
If the cardholder would like to make PIN purchases or access cash, we recommend setting a PIN.

Option 2: Customer Support: Call 1-877-264-8783 to speak to a True Link representative to set or change the card’s PIN.
Please use our automated phone system or call True Link directly to set or change a PIN. For security reasons, we cannot set or change a PIN over email. The only time True Link will ask for a PIN is when the PIN is being set or changed.
Please note that whenever a new replacement Card is activated, the PIN will need to be set. The PIN does not automatically transfer to the new Card upon activation.
Additional information about PIN purchases
Some merchants will request a PIN when completing a purchase. We have included additional information about these types of transactions below.
- Merchants can process purchases made with True Link Visa Cards over the Visa® debit or credit networks.
- When a merchant attempts to process a transaction over the Visa® debit network, they will request a PIN to complete the transaction.
- Entering a PIN is optional in these cases. To complete a purchase without entering a PIN, select “Credit” on the payment terminal, or ask the merchant to run the purchase as “Credit.”
- Requesting to run the purchase as “Credit” enables the merchant to process the transaction over the Visa® credit network. Purchases processed over the Visa® credit network do not require a PIN.
- Please be aware that this applies to merchandise purchases only. A PIN is required if cash-back is requested from the merchant.
